Alpaca Rehabilitation and Retired Horse Care

StillPacas offers rehabilitation to injured sick or old alpacas.  Fay Ray is a (20) alpaca with a degenerative joint condition.  Her agitate is a little strange as she wonders around the paddock but she is quite happy to adjust her walk and graze among the other still holding a positions deserved for a matriarch. 

Tranquil broke her leg is a number of places in an unknown field incident. The was unable to fix all the fractures and it is unsure if this can be achieved and still maintain quality of life.  Tran is therefore being turned out to see if the bones will fuse naturally or allow a final period of time in the sun.  IO was found nearly dead one morning in the paca pasture due to unknown causes.  Apart from a low temperature not helped by the freezing night IO refuses to die or get up.  Gradually time general antibiotics, life maintain support and TLC has kept IO alert.  The cause IO’s incident like Tran’s fracture have remained a mystery but there is finally hope that following been rolled from the field, into a horse trailer and then after a few isolated days into a recuperating stable.  IO can remain happily eating and conversing despite her refusal to get up enjoying her hopeful brief period of sitting like the Queen of Pacas.

 

Hilton is grumpy ex-race horse out living his days eating grass but also learning pole work and long rein skills to improve his top-line muscle and posture. Fred a surprize off spring from an out of sale gypsy requirement now over 20 and enjoy a much deserved requirement after long period as a BHS riding pony. Dora youngster purchased as an intended riding horse but found to have Juvenile Arthritis.  All are enjoyed living in a mixed herd with other livery horses.

 

StillPacas has the space and care time to dedicate to others needing a little extra pasture time or quality nursing to health.

 

Kathryn Gray (Bsc, Msc)  a pervious head of Rest of the World operations for a Global Pharmaceutical company qualified in Agricultural (biochemical ) and Clinical Biochemistry is also qualified in Shiatsu (and i-atsu for humans) and Aromatherapy for horses, Reiki (second degree), Applied Kinesiology, Basic Counselling Skills and more recently Master in Herbology.
